Surface Finishing Guide

Because we own the facility, we control the finishing queue. Each part is inspected on-site before shipping to ensure surface consistency and dimensional integrity across every batch.

01 / Mechanical Processes

As-Machined

Roughness

Ra ≈ 3.2 μm

Lead Time Impact

None (Standard)

The fastest option available. Parts are delivered with visible tool marks left by the milling or turning process. Ideal for internal brackets, initial prototyping, or parts that will undergo secondary processing elsewhere.

Bead Blast

Roughness

Ra ≈ 1.6 μm

Lead Time Impact

+1-2 Days

Fine glass beads are blasted at high pressure to create a uniform matte texture. This process effectively removes directional machining marks and provides a consistent base for anodizing. It is excellent for reducing glare on visible panels.

02 / Chemical & Protective

Anodizing Type II

Compliance

MIL-A-8625

Colors

Clear, Black, Blue, Red

A chemical process that increases the natural oxide layer of aluminum parts. This provides significant corrosion resistance and allows for decorative coloring. Type II anodizing typically adds 0.5 to 1.0 mil of thickness to each surface.

Powder Coat

Thickness

2.0 – 4.0 mils

Aesthetic

Matte, Gloss, Textured

Applied electrostatically as a dry powder and then cured under heat. Powder coating is far more durable than standard paint, providing excellent impact resistance and a wide range of RAL color options for industrial branding.
